Copier Jam! is an exhibition showcasing current zine and independent comic creators, collectives and distributors from across Australia. The exhibition includes the publications alongside original art, layout pages, workings and even a vending machine that distributes zines.

You might be wondering - what is a zine? Think of it as an independently created magazine but without the ‘Maga’ and pronounced zeen. ‘Maga’ isn’t the only thing missing from a zine. Zines aren't glossy and found in newsagents. Zines are produced by anyone with something to say or share on any topic imaginable. Zines are the perfect tool to build and support community, as well as a great voice for the voiceless. Poets and visual artists have also taken a liking to zines as a cheap and unique way to showcase their work.

Independent comics or DIY (Do It Yourself) comics are also extremely wide and varied. The biggest difference between independent comics and comics released by the larger publishers is that independent or DIY comics are generally self-published.

Curator Jeremy Staples has been a bedroom publisher since 2001. Creating music and arts zine Bizoo, Jeremy released twenty-five issues until 2006.

Staples is the co-founder of the Zine and Independent Comic Symposium held in Brisbane. The event attracts over six thousand people from across the globe each year.

Copier Jam! commenced touring in 2015 with the debut showing at the Childers Arts Space (CHARTS) from the 21 July to 27 September 2015. The official opening took place during the Childers Festival on Sunday 26 July at 10:00am.

Copier Jam! in association with the Print Council of Australia’s 2016 Year of Print will tour to Toowoomba's Regional Art Gallery and Artspace Mackay.
